Exercise 35 softening the light

I have to set up a still life arrangement for this exercise and take pictures of it using first a naked lamp and then again using translucent material over it to defuse the light

Comparing the 2 photos
As you can see the second photo is darker with a softer light that is not as  as harsh as in the first photo in which you can see the shadows have a lot hard edges, I think that defusing the lamp works well in eliminating harsh light and shadow
